When
your order is for non-standard sizes, this means that the machines have
to be set up for your special run. It is important that you allow time
for this to happen, hence get your orders in and allow as much time as
possible for this to be arranged.
Before
you nail up your new weather boards, give them 1 coat of pink primer to
weather proof them, and also take the opportunity to then paint them the
colour you want - much easier to do this on the flat than on the wall
- saves drips too. Easier still, place your order for pre-primed weather
boards, this will save you heaps of time.
When
you put your decking down, you can choose to have the reeded side up -
this gives a great non-slip surface for the not so young, or the young
with slippery feet from the pool.
If
you want to put timber straight into the ground, make sure you order treated
pine - it has been pre treated with anti-rot chemicals.
OR, you could order Cypress, which has a natural anti-rot chemical in
its composition - this could be a better choice if you have animals or
small children.
Have
you considered a natural edging to your garden? Red Gum or Treated Radiata
Pine sleepers look great and last forever, and don't damage the whipper
snipper like rocks and cement etc.
When
nailing in the end nails on a hardwood deck, make sure you pre drill the
holes first to avoid timber splitting and disappointment.
Don't
waste your money on top grade timber for noggins - they are not load bearing
and can be of merchantable (merch) grade and cost far less than higher
grades of timber.
Don't
use off-cuts of treated and non-treated radiata pine for your firewood,
it will spit and spoil carpet and leave residue in your chimney.
Always
store your timber flat. Like any natural product that is exposed to nature,
it will twist and contort if not stored properly - ask us how to best
store your timber whilst waiting to use it.
Get
even spaces between your decking by using a builder's pencil as a spacer
between each length - get your builder's pencils from Timber Plus supplies.
Use
fibrous cement sheet products in wet areas to avoid swelling if water
comes in contact with the surface.
